sparkergwb
I want to enter Fe concentration in a GSS spreadsheet. However, the only analyte choices are Fe2+ and 3+. I don't knw the speciation and just want enter total dissolved Fe concentration. Suggestions??
Brian Farrell
The options available in the spreadsheet are the basis species Fe++ and the redox species (different oxidation states) Fe+++. Unless you know the specific oxidation state, you should probably choose the basis species Fe++. By choosing the basis species, you are specifying that any redox species remain coupled to (in equilibrium with) the basis species. You can go to Data -> Redox Couples to verify which redox pairs are enabled and which are decoupled. If you add Fe++ to your spreadsheet and specify the Dissolved Oxygen concentration or Eh, you'll be able to figure out the distribution of iron between the various species in each oxidation state. If there is no measure of oxidation state provided, however, the program will only consider ferrous species. Try taking a look at sections 3.3.2 and 7.3 in the GWB Essentials Guide for more information on the chemical analytes available in your spreadsheet and redox coupling.
