Question about initial constraints in SpecE8

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new to this forum and have a rather basic question.

I am modelling in SpecE8 soil solution in the presence of a cation exchanger (to model the soil CEC). I have data for the total exchangeable Ca, Mg, K and Na; however when I set up the "constraints in initial system" in Basis, it looks as the data expected by SpecE8 is total dissolved, not total in system (solved plus bound to exchanger). Am I correct? How can I solve this question?

Best regards

Fernando

Hi Fernando,

What you describe is the default setting for applying basis constraints to chemical systems involving surfaces. I think you want to use the “sorbate include” option instead. It is briefly described in section 7.7.1, Surface complexation, of the GWB Essentials Guide, although it applies as well to the ion exchange and sorption isotherm models. Please see as well the “sorbate” command in the SpecE8 chapter of the GWB Command Reference.

Hope this helps,
