Sanjoy
Hello there, A colleague of mine collected cation and anion concentrations from local spring waters. Two cations puzzle me: phosphorus and silica. How to I enter them in GWB, as they are not part of the LLNL database? Thank you!
Brian Farrell
Hi, In the LLNL database (thermo.dat, or thermo.tdat in GWB10) you'll find HPO4-- and SiO2(aq) in the list of basis species. You can add these analytes to a GSS spreadsheet or to the Basis pane of any GWB app and specify their concentration in a variety of units. Your lab analysis may report concentration in terms of elemental equivalents, for example, mg/l as P. To specify this in GSS, just right-click the unit cell next to HPO4-- and choose As -> P (or for SiO2(aq), choose As -> Si). In the other GWB apps, click the black triangle next to the unit to set as P or as Si. Hope this helps, Brian Farrell Geochemist Aqueous Solutions LLC
