yzdm
Hi there, I have a question when i read a pic like this: What is that mean by saying:"O2 activity is expressed as SO42-/H2S". Any more information can be delivered?
Guest Melika Sharifi
Hi Yzdm, That means the ratio of SO4--to HS- would set the redox state. If you look at the reaction between H2S and SO42-: H2S + 2 O2 - = SO42- + 2 H+ At a constant pH, the ratio of activity of the sulfate and hydrogen sulfide may be expressed as function of O2 activity. yzdm
Hi Melika Sharifi, We can get log(SO4--/H2S) = logK + 2logO2,aq, according to H2S + 2 O2 - = SO42- + 2 H+. I suppose ' O2 - ' in the reaction means 'O2,aq' actually? Bests, ChenYang
Guest Melika Sharifi
Hi ChenYang, Yes, you are right. It was a typo; the correct balanced reaction is: H2S + 2 O2 = 2 H+ + SO4-- Thanks, Melika Sharifi Aqueous Solutions LLC
